Periodontal Care

The team at Dr. Politmi Mantzouranis, DDS' office is very serious about your overall health, not just the health of your teeth. This includes making sure that your gums and the bones surrounding your teeth are in good health and free from periodontal (gum) disease. Any bleeding in your mouth is a sign of disease. The bacteria which live in your mouth can travel through your circulatory system. Studies have shown a link between periodontal disease and heart, kidney, liver, and lung problems, as well as miscarriages. Some of the signs and symptoms of developing periodontal disease include:

  • Bleeding, inflamed, and/or red gums
  • Loose teeth
  • Increased spaces between teeth
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Discomfort or tenderness
  • Pus around the gums and teeth
  • Receding gums around a tooth
  • Sensitivity

Aside from possibly losing your permanent teeth, there are many serious health risks associated with periodontal disease. Untreated periodontal disease has been linked to heart disease and infective endocarditis. In fact, patients with gum disease are four times more likely to suffer from heart disease!
To avoid advancement in periodontal disease, patients should eat a balanced diet, practice good oral hygiene, and attend regularly scheduled dental appointments with Dr. Politmi Mantzouranis, DDS. At our dental practice, we will do our best to educate our patients about the importance of their overall health. We also recommend that all our patients use hydrofloss and a Sonicare toothbrush. If you are experiencing any discomfort or pain in your teeth or gums, we strongly recommend that you visit our office immediately.

Dental Implant Reconstruction

Approximately three months after your implant has been placed, your mouth will be ready to receive the implant restoration (crown). Dr. Politmi Mantzouranis, DDS will accurately place your new restoration tooth over the implant anchor to ensure the optimal outcome for the function and beauty of your smile. Implants are a state-of-the-art solution for missing teething. However, they are not recommended for patients who currently smoke.

Dental implants have many benefits, including:

  • Convenience

Implants are permanent and fuse with your bone, eliminating any need for dental adhesives. They also make it easier to eat and speak.

  • Aesthetical Appeal

Implants fuse with your bone, so they look and feel just like a natural tooth.

  • Durability

With the proper care, dental implants can last an entire lifetime. After the restoration tooth is placed, it will look and function like a natural tooth. In fact, implant restorations are the best alternative to natural teeth available today. It is important to care for your new restoration just like you would the rest of your teeth by brushing, flossing, and attending regular appointments with Dr. Politmi Mantzouranis, DDS.

A denture is a removable dental appliance that effectively replaces missing teeth. Dentures help keep your teeth and mouth in good form when you are missing one or more teeth.

Dr. Politmi Mantzouranis, DDS offers two types of dentures in two forms: complete and partial dentures that are either supported by the soft tissue or dental implants. Implant-supported dentures are the most stable form of dentures available. Complete dentures are a wonderful solution for patients who are missing all of their teeth, while partial dentures can fill the spaces left by missing teeth along an arch. When missing any teeth, partial dentures are important because they help prevent other teeth from shifting in the mouth.

Dentures are beneficial in many ways, and can:

  • Replace complete or partial loss of teeth in an arch.
  • Enhance your facial tissues and smile.

  • Improve chewing, speech, and digestion functions.

Dentures will lend function and dental support to your smile. Please give us a call to learn more about what complete dentures or partial dentures can do for your dental needs.
